Commonly Used Homeopathic Remedies for Sports Related Injuries

Apis
Characteristic of a bee sting, with swelling, redness, heat sensation, pain, and stinging sensation

For joint pains, stiffness, swellings, and bursitis

Worse: heat, touch, pressure

Better: Cold applications

For injuries due to exertion, trauma, and overtraining Muscles ache, are sore, and feel "beaten" and bruised

Worse: Touch, and both motion and rest

Arnica may be taken before and after training and competing to help prevent muscle soreness

Arnica lotion may be applied topically for sore muscles

Bellis perennis
Like Arnica. It also acts on the muscles

For sore and bruised feeling In the muscles

Choose this remedy if Arnica fails to provide relief

Bryonia
Stitching and tearing pains in the muscles

For muscle tears and muscle strains Joint pains in arthritis and bursitis, when the joints are red, swollen and feel hot (but not as hotas Apis)

Worse: Motion, exertion, movement

Better Rest, keeping affected part still, pressure

Calc phos
Calcium phosphate affects bone and helps in healing of fractures and stress fractures

Pains in the joints and bones, especially the knee

Calendula
Useful as a topical for open wounds and abrasions of the skin that are not healing properly

Colocynthis
Neuralgias and cramps, nerve and muscle pains, with sensation of cutting, boring, or twisting like a knife

Better. From hard pressure, heat, and bending

Cuprum met
Muscle spasms and cramps, especially of the calf and sole of the foot

Hypericum
Acts on the nerves, especially of the fingers and toes

Puncture wounds, pain after operations from surgical inci­sions and arthroscopy

Hypericum lotion or cream may be applied topically to cut, crushed, or injured fingers and toes to reduce pain.

Ledum
For puncture wounds, splinters, bruising

Helpful post surgically for reducing contusions

Mag phos
Cramping of the muscles with" radiating pains

Twitching of the muscles from cramps

Better: Warmth,pressure

Worse: Cold

Rhus tox
Affects fibrous tissue, tendons, tendon sheaths, and joints

Injuries from strains, sprains, and overtraining after the acute inflammed period (Arnica)

For arthritis and joint pains', it is the "rusty gate" remedy characterized by pain and stiffness worse when at rest

Worse: Cold and wet weather, during rest and in the morning.

Better: Warm and dry weather, movement and walking if it is not too strenuous, warm ap­plications, and stretching out the affected parts.

Ruta
Affects periosteum, cartilage, and tendons

Bruises, strained, and painful feeling of Joints, tendons and bones

Useful after the acute phase of an injury (Arnica) for strains and sprains

Achilles tendinitis, patellar tendinitis, tennis elbow, knee and ankle sprains.

Symphytum
Affects periosteum and bone. For stimulating healing of fractures and stress fractures.
